How it started
One truck, and a phone somebody answered
Forge Dumpster Rental went on the road in 2016, when Marcus Whitfield got tired of watching out-of-town haulers treat McDonough customers like an afterthought: vague on timing, quick to add a charge nobody mentioned on the phone, and impossible to reach once the container was already sitting in the driveway. He'd spent years around trucks and jobsites across Henry County before that, and figured a company that actually answered its own phone would not have much trouble finding work.
The pitch was the opposite of what he'd seen: one number that covers the whole job, a delivery window we actually hit, and someone on the line who has genuinely loaded a container. That idea hasn't moved since, and word travels around here. A contractor building along the I-75 corridor tells the next contractor, a shop owner renovating a storefront on the square mentions it to another shop owner, a family clearing a parent's house tells the next family down the road — and the yard on 1000 Dailey Mill Rd keeps getting busier.
There's a fitting symmetry to running a hauling company out of a town people still call "The Geranium City." McDonough was established in 1823, laid out around a traditional town square and named for Commodore Thomas Macdonough, and locally grown geraniums have been part of the town's identity long enough to earn the nickname outright — celebrated every year at the real Geranium Festival on the third Saturday in May, when the whole downtown turns out. Marcus Whitfield grew up around that same kind of steady, small-town work ethic, and it shows in how the company runs now that it's bigger than the one truck it started with. It's a fitting spot for a hauler whose whole business is knowing exactly where every street actually leads — from the tight, older blocks around the square out to the newer subdivisions on the edges of town. What a normal week looks like
Monday might open with a 15 yard on a short drive near the downtown square for a storefront cleanout, then a swap on a new-construction job out along the I-75 corridor where the crew filled a 30 faster than anyone planned. Tuesday could be a tear-off on a subdivision roof where the box has to sit tight to the driveway because the lot slopes away from the house.
Midweek there's usually an estate clearance or a whole-home cleanout somewhere in Henry County, scheduled around what's actually being disturbed rather than a generic timeline. Fridays lean commercial: retail fit-outs downtown, new warehouse space along the corridor, property managers turning over units in the newer subdivisions.
A few weeks a year run differently on purpose. When race weekend hits EchoPark Speedway in Hampton — the track most people around here still call Atlanta Motor Speedway — the crowds, vendors and cleanup crews that follow it bring a real, short spike of work. And every third Saturday in May, the Geranium Festival fills the downtown square and the storefronts around it get a fresh round of cleanout calls before and after. Does renovating a historic McDonough building change the debris plan?
Sometimes, yes.
